Everything you need to stay close

One simple app for the conversations that matter.

Encrypted chats

Messages, photos, videos, voice messages and files are end-to-end encrypted with MLS, the IETF standard for group messaging. Only the people in the chat hold the keys.

Voice and video calls

Clear voice and video calls, one to one or in a group. Normal calls are end-to-end encrypted too.

Translated voice and video calls PRO

Talk in your language. They hear theirs. Choose from more than 70 listening languages, with live captions. Part of AviNat Pro.

Stories

Share a photo, video or text status for 24 hours, and choose who sees it: Everyone, My contacts or Nobody.

Channels

Broadcast to many people with a public or private channel. Followers never see each other.

19 languages

AviNat speaks your language, from English, Amharic and Arabic to Swahili, Hindi and Chinese, with right-to-left layouts where needed.

Security, built in from the first message

AviNat has no access to the content of your messages and calls. They are end-to-end encrypted, and only you and the people you communicate with can read them.

AviNat is in a private pilot today. This section describes the current pilot app. The App Store version is not released yet.

End-to-end encryption with MLS

Messages, media and normal calls are encrypted on your device with Messaging Layer Security (MLS), the IETF standard RFC 9420. Encryption keys are generated and stored on your devices and are never available to AviNat.

Hybrid post-quantum encryption

Every chat combines X25519 with ML-KEM-768, the post-quantum standard published by NIST, so message content captured today stays protected against future quantum computers. There is no unencrypted fallback.

Automatic key rotation

Your devices refresh their keys in each chat automatically: after about 50 messages or 7 days of use, and at least every 30 days. Each refresh replaces the previous keys.

Deleted from our servers after delivery

Encrypted messages stay on our servers only until every recipient device has received them, and are then deleted. A message that is never collected is deleted after 30 days.

Encrypted storage on your phone

Your chat history is kept in an encrypted database on your iPhone. Its key is held in the iOS Keychain, on that device only.

Security codes

Compare a security code with a contact to confirm that you are talking to the right person, and choose to be notified when a contact’s code changes.

Two-step verification

Add a six-digit PIN that is required whenever your phone number is registered on a new phone.

No ads. No sale of your data.

AviNat contains no advertising and no tracking, and we never sell your personal information.

To deliver messages, our servers handle limited information that is not end-to-end encrypted, such as who you communicate with and when. Translated calls, channels, stories and profile information are not end-to-end encrypted either, and the app labels them. Read the Privacy Policy

What makes AviNat different

Many popular messaging apps encrypt chats. AviNat goes further in a few important ways.

  1. Post-quantum protection in every chat

Many popular messaging apps rely on classical encryption alone. Every AviNat chat uses hybrid post-quantum encryption by default, with nothing to turn on.

  2. Your messages don’t stay on our servers

Encrypted messages are removed from our servers once they are delivered. Your history lives on your devices, and in your own encrypted backup if you choose one.

  3. Built on an open internet standard

AviNat uses MLS, a protocol developed in the open at the IETF, for one-to-one and group chats alike.

  4. A business that isn’t built on your data

Many popular apps are funded by advertising. AviNat has no ads and no tracking, and does not sell personal information.

  5. Clear about every limit

Features that are not end-to-end encrypted are labelled in the app and listed in our Privacy Policy, so you always know what is protected.

Translated calls

Speak naturally. Hear them in your language.

Each of you chooses the language you want to hear, and the language the other person speaks is detected automatically. Captions show what was said and its translation, and their original voice can play softly underneath.

How translated calls work

A translated call is a separate kind of call, kept apart from AviNat’s encrypted calls. This is what happens.

  1. You start, they answer

Start a translated call from the Translate tab, a chat or a contact. You both see that the call is not end-to-end encrypted, and the other person has to tap Answer.

  2. Each of you picks a language

Choose the language you want to hear from more than 70. You don’t set theirs: the language they speak is detected automatically.

  3. Your voices are translated as you talk

Your voices go to AviNat’s servers, and our translation service streams them to our AI partner. Translated speech and captions arrive within a few seconds.

  4. We don’t record the call

We don’t record or store the audio, the video or the captions. We keep a record that the call happened (who called whom, and when) for 30 days.

Translation is automatic and can make mistakes. For private conversations, use a normal call. Help Center

Privacy, explained honestly

Messages and normal calls are end-to-end encrypted: they are locked on your phone, and only the people in the chat or call hold the keys. Some features work differently, and the app labels them. Here is exactly what is covered.

AviNat is in a private pilot today. This section describes the current pilot app. The App Store version is not released yet.

End-to-end encrypted

  • Personal and group messages
  • Photos, videos, voice messages and files in chats
  • Normal voice and video calls
  • Optional chat backup, with a password or key only you know

Not end-to-end encrypted, and labelled in the app

  • Translated calls (your voice goes to a translation service; we do not record it)
  • Channels
  • Stories (profile posts)
  • Your profile photo and profile information
  • The names you give your contacts in AviNat

No ads. No tracking.

Clear limits on what we keep

The Privacy Policy lists how long each kind of information is kept on our servers, from call records to server logs.

Questions and answers

Is AviNat free?

Yes. Messages and normal voice and video calls are free and unlimited, with no ads. AviNat Pro is an optional monthly subscription for translated calls.

Can AviNat read my messages?

In the pilot app, messages and normal calls are end-to-end encrypted, so AviNat has no access to their content: our servers relay them only in encrypted form, and the keys stay on your devices. For the same reason, AviNat is technically unable to provide that content in response to any request. Channels, stories, translated calls and profile information are not end-to-end encrypted, and the app labels them.

Who can make translated calls?

Translated calls are part of AviNat Pro. Only the person who starts the call uses minutes, so the person you call doesn’t need Pro. If you don’t see the Translate tab, the feature isn’t on for your account yet.

Which languages are supported?

The app is available in 19 languages, including English, Amharic and Arabic. In a translated call you can choose from more than 70 languages to hear.

How do I sign in?

With your phone number and a one-time code. People can also find you by your username.

Is there an Android app?

Not yet. AviNat is for iPhone first. Android is coming later.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, go to You > Account > Delete account. The Help Center explains what happens to your information.
