Back up and restore your chats

Chat backup saves your messages and media so you can bring them to a new iPhone. Your backup is end-to-end encrypted: only you can unlock it, not even AviNat. Chat backup is being turned on gradually, so you may not see it yet.

Try this

Turn on chat backup

Open AviNat, tap You, then Chats, then Chat backup. If you don't see Chat backup, it isn't available on your account yet.
Turn on Back up chats. By default, AviNat creates the backup key for you and keeps it in your iCloud Keychain, so you don't need to type anything.
If you prefer, tap Use a password instead and create a password of at least 8 characters, or choose Use a 64-digit key instead. Write the key down and keep it somewhere safe.
Choose how often to Back up automatically (Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Off) and whether to Include videos. Tap Back up now to make a backup right away.

Restore on a new iPhone

Before you start, make sure the new iPhone is signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID and that iCloud Keychain is on (in the iPhone Settings app, tap your name, then iCloud).
Install AviNat and sign in with the same phone number.
When you see Restore chat history, tap Restore. If asked, enter your password or 64-digit key.
Keep AviNat open on Wi-Fi. Messages are restored first, and "Your media keeps restoring while AviNat is open."

Still not working?

Reply in your report thread (You > Help > My reports) with what the screen says (for example "Not backed up yet" or the message during restore). Never send us your password or key. A person from our team will follow up. You can also write to [email protected].

Good to know

If you lose your password or key, nobody can restore your backup, not even AviNat. We can't reset it for you. You can tap Skip restore and start without your chat history.
Automatic backups happen on Wi-Fi while AviNat is open. If you see "Free up space on this iPhone to back up.", free some storage and try again.
Restore allows a limited number of tries. After too many wrong tries you must wait before trying again, and the screen tells you how long.
You can change your password with Change password on the Chat backup screen.
Turn off deletes your backup.
Without a backup, your messages are only kept on your phone. Uninstalling AviNat removes them from that phone.
